Sync issues with Vista
« on: 24 March 2009, 01:34:57 » by mkfrmf2

I recently got a new PC with Visa on it (32 bit, single processor).  Before this, I had an XP machine using Desktop 4.0.1.   I have installed the 6.2 version of the Palm desktop, but when I try to sync, the treo shows a fatal error.  It can be cleared on the screen so no data is lost, but the sync operation will not work.   I am at a loss for what to do - the Palm web site suggests there there is simply no support for the Treo 90 and thus I am out of luck.  Any help from other users would be very much appreciated.

I know this is a late reply, but I recently acquired a Treo 90 and wanted to synch it with my Vista system.

To do this install the Palm Desktop 6.2 software.  Once installed, I rebooted for good measure.  Once back to the desktop, I hooked up the 90 to the system using the usb cable.

Now at this point, starting a synch always locked up with a fatal error.

What I did to get it working was to right-click the HotSynch icon in the Vista system tray and select "Settings".
The HotSynch Manager (HM) app launched.
On the left side of the HM window, select Applications.
When the list of apps appears, uncheck all apps except for Date Book, Address Book, ToDo List, and Memo Pad.
Click "Done" to save the settings.

On the Treo, I initiated a hotsynch and it worked.

Now I haven't spent any time trying to figure out which app might have been causing the fatal error, but I was able to synch the date book which is what I use this thing for mainly.

Toodles!

As a follow up...
The synch would go successfully, but my Palm Desktop was empty.  None of the datebook items were displayed.  I could see the new data files were on the Vista system, but Palm Desktop wasn't displaying them properly.

I found a thread that mentioned a reg fix (forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=261651)  To get the new 6.2 Desktop working on Vista with older palms.

I applied the fix, deleted my user from Palm Desktop, and then did a new synch.  It worked!
